General discussion / Re: How is Crestock doing for everybody?
« : Ноября 29, 2007, 12:31:05 pm »
Hi Josh  ;D

Like I have mentioned before, business is business, and if a site is working, I will sell there. When I quite Crestock, I honestly did not have the bandwidth to waste on arbitrary rejections (I believe one of the forum posts said " ...we don't want images that sell elsewhere, we want exceptional images... "

All good and well, but if you can't supply the basics, why would visitors come? wouldn't they just go to the place that can supply them everything they need in one go? (well, that's my logic) Also, nobody on your team could give me any indication of what "exceptional" images are. The last point that drove me away was simply that everytime I asked a question, my comments were deleted from the forum...

So... if any of this has changed, then sure... I will upload there again...

Might be... just depends on the reviewer... more or less like all things in life.

I personally think that it's very difficult to review images if you are not a photographer. Also, how do you judge sellability if you are not in the industry? maybe an image buyer can review, but would they not review more on emotional connection in the image than technical quality?

Where do you think statement of " Those who can, Do. Those who can't, Teach" came from? It's the same in every industry.

A Good reviewer is very hard to find.

Also, I think if you review for somebody like SS, it's difficult to steal ideas, because you are just too busy trying to get through your queue! but maybe less so on the smaller sites... dunno

yep. I must agree with Lev. It's not something you come accross in many western cultures... We had a similiar problem here, but it's still not part of my release. I think I need to update...

google: Country name + expat

They (the expats)) tend to run forums that give you the low down on cheap food, what to avoid, times to go and see/visit specific locations, etc

Next stop: Expedia for hotel deals (generally about half cheaper than normal rates + buy three nights, get 1 free)

and then off to the stock sites to see who shot what, (doesn't help to cover all the same stuff) but, I generally ignore that info by the time we get there. It's sometimes just nice to find something that is hidden (it inspires you to go and look a bit more off the beaten track)

A few I manadged to put on stocks do not sell as good as I expected, btw. Discouraging.

Woah... I must say, I see exactly the oposite. My sport images (few as they are) sell exceptionally well. and is generally outselling my business images (and outlasting them!!)

Another surprise (does it count as sport?) is dance. I sell 5-15 dance images a day and I only have about a 100... BIG GAP IN THE MARKET!

5D with
24-70 f/2.8 L
70-200 f/4 L
17-40 f/4 L
50mm f/1.8 (with Kenko Extension tubes for Macro work)

Sean, do you use 17-40 a lot?

Yeah, quite a bit, depending what I am shooting. I like using it in sport:

but it makes people nervous because on the FF sensor you are about 30cm away

on the other hand, it's nice for a bit of comedy:

hehe... yep

One day shooting has 3 photogs + assistants

the other two days are just short studio sessions.

On the $6k package, they get a hand stitched leather album and 21 A4 enlargements. If they want more, the have to go to the larger packages (I don't do small prints for weddings anymore)

Sure!

But right now only on request and referral. Our packages start at $6,000 and we have three photographers there on the day(each with an assistant), one shoot before the wedding, and one after the wedding (after the honeymoon)

Thanx!!

We also found the "Oryx Farm and Equestrian Club" which might work...

The baby just laid there quietly and let me snap off photo after photo. I shot it for about two hours and she didn't get cranky up until the very end of the shoot.

what did you feed that baby?!?
