Btw: if it wasn't for the "friendliness" emanating from LO, it's admins and especially the inspectors, I'd quit uploading after one month.

I totally agree, sales have really slowed for me lately and reviewing of images has stopped. If it wasn't for the friendliness of the people and reviews I would have left along time ago. shame

Interesting idea, never tried to sleep on my computer ;-) More serious answer, I tend to change subjects/ methods, I sometimes I do fractals, then photos, then backgrounds, then, ... aAt the moment I am fascinated by seamless backgrounds. I think the variety keeps me interested and busy in the 14 min between checking the stats again! SY

The warmth from the computer helps me sleep....and if the computer is under my pillow nobody can steal my precious!

Should the stock sites provide counseling! I guess you like me check your figures on a 15 min basis to see whats selling and whats not. We all get days when the figures hardly drag themselves up to what you would expect on Christmas day and other when sudenly they take off for no reason but how do you pick yourself up and where do you get your inspiration from to mount the next assault on the stock photography world?

I personally either head to my top sellers and try and pick apart why they have sold and try to take it in a new direction or kick back in front of the TV and see what is going on in the advertising world and see if I can get some hint and tips from there. Failing that I will pack away the computer and sleep on it and then hopefully in the morning I will be eager to go again.

I will start it off and I would have to say I wish I had taken more pictures of my daughter when she was a baby....and myleene Klass running down a beach!

I share my house with two cats...they came with my girlfriend. I am more of a dog person but my girlfriend wont let me get a dog with two cats around the house. I have offered to put one of them down (I will let her choose) but she wont have any of it!

It sound a bit like the problem I had a while ago. I ended up ungrouping everything and then punching holes in the gradient sections (ie where you wanted to see other colours within the gradient and it overlapped) then merging sections a bit at a time then cropping as I went. Its a bit time consuming.

Sometimes if a think it is too much work or a tranparentcy will do the job quicker (which wont work in version 8 .eps) I just upload the jpeg and move on to the next image.

I know the feeling well!!!! You get the e-mail, you read it, first image passed, second image passed, third image...and then they kick you square between the eyes...failed!

Only 67 days left for me! before I get another kick between the eyes!

As a side note it is always good practice to expand/outline any features you have created with illustrator, that goes for symbols, brushes and strokes. The reason for this is that whoever buys the file will not have the elements you have created and either the symbols, brushes or strokes will be turned to bitmap or the file will be bloated where illustrator tries to combine all the elements when you have it back to a version 8 .eps

I think we all learn this hard lesson at some stage!

I do my work at the size I do so I don't have to resize it for Alamy...and it covers all of the largest sizes in the other sites.

I havent had a sale at Alamy for a month or so but when you do get sales they are worth it. I have made as much there in the past 6 months as I have in the last year at Canstock, Crestock, Fotolia, Big Stock and 123RF combined!

How do you decide what size document to start with? I tend to go for A3 (297x420mm) plus 3mm bleed all round (303x426mm) for most of my illustrations or 350x350mm for square illustrations.

The reason I have chosen this size is because it gives a file size just over 48m uncompressed which is what Alamy require.

How does everyone else approach it?

The first image was an attempt to do something in the style they were asking for.

Yes it seems to be, I cant get on either. Its a shame I really like LO but recently the sales have really fallen off and the site has been very slow to load. Also images are taking such a long time to me reviewed.
