General discussion / Re: Keen Images
« : Февраля 25, 2008, 10:08:46 pm »
I applied to sell my photos there over a year ago and was rejected.  They have some funny requirements, if I remember correctly.  If not, someone please correct me.  I believe you had to resize your initial test batch to make them much smaller for review.  They're pretty strict, as far as I can tell, and they do have some nice photos.  Their web site has not changed since I first visited them.

If any of you submit to ShutterPoint, from their (KeenImages') web site: "ShutterPoint is operated by the same company that manages KeenImages website."

Sales have been picking up again.  Last spring I had a couple really good months, but I get regular sales there and I like their site layout.

Off topic / What do you want?
« : Февраля 22, 2008, 04:44:01 am »
After seeing SY's thread http://photographicfreedom.co.uk/forum/index.php?topic=828.0 about what we want to see on this forum, I clicked on it thinking it was a wish list.  It wasn't, so post your wish list items here and tell a little about it.  Include design software, camera accessories, cameras, anything stock related.  Here's mine:

I recently purchased a K10D and I have an old Vivitar 283 flash that puts out over 500 volts upon fire and a steady 150-250 volts while charging (Canon's hotshoes take a maximum 5-6 volts).

I really want a few Pentax AF540FGZ's, http://www.pentaxslr.com/flashes/flash_540.  They are high-speed wireless (on-camera too) flashes that can be triggered remotely using the built-in on-camera flash.  The nice thing about this is you don't need more than one, like many other remotely-triggered flashes, but you can have as many as you want set up remotely.  Also, I read somewhere, but can't find where, Pentax has four different channels in case someone else is using a Pentax camera near you, they won't set off your flashes when they take a picture.  This would be perfect at a wedding because you wouldn't have to ask the in-laws to stop using their flashes because only the built-in Pentax flash fires all your remote flashes.

Anyway, I don't work for Pentax, even if it sounds like I do, but I'm saving up to buy a couple of these flashes.

Photography / Re: Gray Card Recommendations?
« : Февраля 05, 2008, 04:45:23 am »
OK, now that I'm ready to manually set the white balance in my camera, I have just a few more questions if you don't mind:

Do you use your gray cards for post-processing to adjust a batch of photos in PS, etc.?  Or do you use it to set the white balance before you shoot the batch?

If you use the gray card to set the white balance before a shoot, why not use a white card instead?  Or a white object in the photo?  What is the difference (pros and cons) between a white card and a gray card used before the shot?

Thanks for your suggestions so far.  I hope everyone doesn't mind me asking a lot of questions.  I've read quite a bit about adjusting white balance and no where have I found an article discussing advantages and limitations of each method.  As I'm not a fan of post-processing it seems I'm leaning toward getting the right white balance before I take the picture.  I hope a discussion here gives me some more ideas.

So that's not a bad idea to print my own, but what printer do you use?  Laser or ink-jet?  What about paper type and brightness?  Standard office paper is not very bright, I believe I have some 95 brightness HP paper, or would you use photo paper?  Thanks.

Photography / Gray Card Recommendations?
« : Февраля 01, 2008, 04:10:56 am »
I need a gray card, and I don't want to pay a lot of money for it.  Can anyone recommend a good one?  Also what makes a good card good?  I've read about white cards that are 18 percent gray, and I've read about gray cards that reflect 18 percent light.  What does all this mean?  I just want a card (or other recommendation) to set my white balance on my digital camera (K10D).  Thanks for the help.

Do any of you have experience with ProStockMaster?  You can download their trial version from their web site for free with the limitation of no more than five photos a day.  If you have heard anything or have used it please let me know the pros and cons.  Thanks.

Yep, after I did this I saw Istock's logo everywhere I looked for two days straight.  Good marketing on their part!

I'm a right-click kind of guy.  As much as I hate Microsoft products I see no benefit to using a Mac (please don't take offense Mac users, I'm not trying to start a fight).  While there are certain advantages of each system, Adobe programs have the exact same functions on both computers so no advantages there.  Mine came with a mouse with more than one button!

I recently set up pages on both, and there are benefits of each.  (These are my findings and my opinions) Facebook typically has an older, more mature belonging, but it is more difficult to post referral links, etc.  MySpace is a little different crowd, you'll get a lot of spam mailings, but who knows, it's publicity.  Myspace allows banners on your profile page, which is nice.

Hope this helps.

They were my first payout (which their threshold is very low) but it was my first and sales continue to come.  I like them.
