General discussion / Re: Model Release Question
« : Января 08, 2008, 07:36:28 pm »
I asked my wife's advise, as she knows the family and I dont and she thought they might be hesitant to sign a model release and not want their photos sold as stock. I ended up writing up a simple "release" for the mother to sign that gave me permission to use the photos for my website and advertising. I asked her to sign it when I gave her their photos and she was more than happy to sign. Also, she paid me twice what I was going to charge her so I dont feel so bad about not being able to sell the photos as stock.

Hey thanks Frenk! Good to know. This is not my family I am taking photos of (if that makes any difference). I am taking them for a client and being paid. I was going to ask if they minded if I used them for my site, I just didnt want to make them fill out five different model releases if I didnt need to.

Thanks!

Im going to be shooting some family photos that I dont plan on selling, but would like to use for my website for my business. What do I need to get signed so I dont get sued or anything? Do I need to have each member of the family sign a model release?

Thanks!

I`m going to shoot my first wedding in December (OMG, it is December already!)
Hope it will be great experience for me. Also I promise to right down some tips about this theme, right when the work will be done!

Please take some good notes for me!  ;D

Also, if you dont mind me asking. What kind of gear will you be using? Camera, lenses, flashes, etc.?

Well, the main lesson for me was NO ALCOHOL

I will have to remember that! ;) An open bar can be a dangerous thing indeed! The last thing I need to do is get tipsy and fall off a step ladder while trying to take a group shot and break my neck, or worse all my cool new gear!

I was so surprised how well it went. I thought for sure this baby was going to cry the whole time and I wasn't going to get any good shots. I haven't been around a baby in like ten years so I wasn't going to be any help getting the baby to cooperate. I talked to the mother quite a bit before they came out to my studio and I had a pretty clear image of what i wanted to accomplish.

Her mother brought this little innertube looking thing and I stuck it under my backdrop and she laid her daughter on it and she just laid there for almost two hours (we did a few outfit changes and took a couple breaks). I hooked my camera up to an extra tv I had so the mother could see all the shots I was taking without having to stop and show her the pics on my camera.

I wish I could take credit for it but honestly it was just dumb luck on my part. I think she is teething now and is pretty cranky so I think im going to wait a little while before I line up another photo shoot.

Here is one of the first shots I took and the last shot when she started getting fussy. That one of her crying has been selling really well, I should have stuck it out a little longer and snapped a few more shots!

the wedding is in March and I am meeting with the bride in a few days and hopefully I can confirm that I will be doing the wedding. I figure even if I dont get the new gear 'till after Christmas that still gives me two full months at least to familiarize myself with the new gear. Its not as long as I would like, but it is a good chunk of time.

I have been using the Olympus e500 for the last year. It was my first slr and it has been a great camera for me, however I am thinking of upgrading to Canon.

I am defiantly going to the rehearsal if I can. It will be a great opportunity to scout the location and take some test shots as well as get a game plan for how the wedding is going to happen.

I have been doing a lot of thinking and I think I am going to take the plunge and get a Canon. I started pricing out all the gear I would need for my Olympus and not only was it way more expensive, the quality just didnt seem as good. I am really concerned about flash performance considering the majority of the wedding will be indoors. Even with the best flash for my Oly the reviews weren't that great and they are like $350, I figure I can get two decent speedlights for a little more.

I just cant get over how much cheaper (less expensive) accessories are available for Canon, I was looking at a 50mm lens for my Oly and it was going to be around $500 and I found a good one for Canon for like $70, thats insane! I have been looking at the Digital Rebel xti, it isnt much better than what I have now but its a start and I then I will have my Oly as a backup.

I did some photos of a friends 3 month old baby and I thought it was going to be a nightmare, but it was actually really easy. The baby just laid there quietly and let me snap off photo after photo. I shot it for about two hours and she didn't get cranky up until the very end of the shoot. Great learning experience!

Speedlites would be great but im using an Olympus E-500 and I dont think they are compatible. I have been reading up on some flashes for my camera and the F-50 has some good reviews, but from what I hear the recycle time is still much slower than a speedlight. I can see slow recycle times really being a big pain and could lead to lots of lost shots, but I just cant afford to switch over to Canon or Nikon just yet.

Hopefully I can get away with bouncing my flash off the wall or ceiling, using reflector and boosting my ISO.
Thanks again for the tips!

Thanks for the great tips Forgiss! I dont think sunscreen will be an issue because the wedding is in March and mostly indoors, but a good tip nonetheless.

What would be a good lighting setup for group shots? I was thinking of using my flash plus one good light if that would be sufficient.

I do illustrations in Photoshop and Illustrator. I just started using 3ds max and doing some 3d renders of models I have made.
