General discussion / Re: Anybody up for a race?
« : Февраля 21, 2008, 02:20:17 pm »
On Shutterstock it doesn't really matter, does it? They all get reviewed at once at the inspection event. But I think having around 10 or more images every inspections is good enough.

p.s.: Even if I noticed a slowdown in inspections (on photos and vectors) and this might change the plans a little.

;)) It happens a lot of times: prepare everything, set all the settings right, all flashes and the camera, speak to the model, bla bla bla, prepare to take the picture and "bam", no focus and no view: lens cap not removed. Everyday stupidity;)

p.s.: A lot worse when it happens in a crowd;))
p.p.s.: Or: walking around with an off-camera flash in hand, taking snapshots for a few minutes, than realizing that the flash isn't turned on;) Woooooohoooo!

It always works that way, yes. The more I upload (in working days (weekends are a different story)), the more sales I get. It is obviously a matter of quality as well (not really quality, but "buyer suppositions based on thumbnail taste"), but mainly yes, I claim that Shutterstock works that way.

p.s.: It's certainly because of the 25 images per day subscription quota. Buyers check new images under the liked categories and go haywire "downloading everything that breathes";) And consequently they check the portfolios as well. If you don't upload (or don't upload that much), you don't get downloads.
p.p.s.: Other sites (most of them) work completely differently. It is my belief that a big chunk of downloads (again relatively) on Shutterstock happens without targeted search engine inputs.

DNF, 50% less per day than "usually" (I am well aware that by being a "newcomer" I can't draw objective conclusions based on my stats, btw). From the middle of January I was getting constant DLs of 100 up to 140, but when I slowed down with my submissions due to time constraints last week (in other words: no new uploads), my DLs per day dropped to around 80-90 a day (with the lower weekend sales as well (usually 50-60, this weekend 30/day).

p.s.: Can't complain, still great, but the euphoria of "supersales" (relative to my quality, of course) on Shutterstock spoils the ego profoundly, very much so;) I will have to get back to my usual submission-per-day number as soon as possible. I have a feeling that if I was not to upload for let's say a month, the consequences would be catastrophic.
p.p.s.: Other microstock sites don't have such a quick stats-response. That's the beauty of Shutterstock: it rewards steadiness.
p.p.p.s.: Btw, DNF, congrats for the being on the first page of 123RF;)

Btw, I'm beginning to feel how Shutterstock reacts to slow uploads. The last week I uploaded only a couple of new files and the downloads were affected for as much as 50% (considering fluctuations).

Dreamstime is doing ok for me, good sales, even if I'm day by day more surprised by it's most "balanced" competitor Stockxpert. Lovely sales there too. Some particular days it even surpasses Shutterstock. They fluctuate a lot, though.

p.s.: No deal on the Vegas ship!;)

General discussion / Re: Lucky Oliver lowers pay-out to $1 respective $25

Btw: if it wasn't for the "friendliness" emanating from LO, it's admins and especially the inspectors, I'd quit uploading after one month.

Sounds strategic, yeah.

p.s.: Even if honestly doesn't make that much of a difference getting 25 or a 100 dollars. But it does mean I won't have to wait four years to achieve the later, that's true;)
p.p.s.: In three months there I earned 10 bucks. That divided by the time spent "uploading/waiting for system slowdowns while entering desc/keywords" equals surely the lowest income per hour on earth, literally. Not even enough to buy one pizza here (I'd have to beg for a glass of water);)
p.p.p.s.: They should really rethink the whole site "personality". It sounds different, but I'm pretty much certain this isn't working the way it should as things stand right now.

General discussion / Re: Albumo or Fotomind experiences?

I was lured by the Albumo look (very elaborate design and system) and I hope that in one or two years the thing grows. Fotomind, on the other hand, should really reinvent itself. Looks like a forum board, man;)

;)) The funny thing is that I'm pretty sure I don't have "baby" or "duck" keywords in my port at all;)

p.s.: Now I'm gonna go buy one of those Vegas ships so popular lately;))
