Are sales finally improving at Fotolia after their upgrade? SY

They are flying for me. I am selling lots of extra large files, and they keep the money rolling in. I have turned off email notification because they were clogging up my in box.
I don't get many extended licence sales there though.

Doing great for me. More than doubled after the upgrade.

Fotolia really does well at the moment. It had 36% growth in November, after 87% growth in October.
Some were writing off Fotolia after their disastrous upgrade, but they recovered and improved significantly.

only for emerald contributers and other agencies/ So it won't do many of us very good for a long time.
Maybe you Lev will be lucky but I'm guessing it will only drop sales of those high priced images if a buyer sees 50 results of which 49 cost 5 credits and 1 50 O0 that one must be exceptionally better wouldn't it?
: Re: Infinite Collection?
: dolgachov December 26, 2007, 03:26:17 PM
i would not drop sales. i would gladly change price to some of my uinque stuff and will make it higher. those are not the images that sell every day, rather bizarre ones. when one intends to buy them, there's no real difference if they cost 1 dollar or 10.

but as long as this Infinite Сollection requires them to be sold for no less money elsewhere, i will not put any of my images under this system.

but as long as this Infinite Сollection requires them to be sold for no less money elsewhere,..

That would be price fixing and therefor illegal, see this article (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Price_fixing) SY
: Re: Infinite Collection?

wouldn't. price fixing is agreement BETWEEN BUSINESS COMPETITORS.
: Re: Infinite Collection?
: khz December 27, 2007, 01:14:16 PM
as long as i know,
this collection belongs to fotolia,
some of infinite images' quality is very low, so they wouldnt be accepted to many of micro's if a single contributor uploaded,
and this make me feel that,
fotolia try to draw traffic with microstock contributors, and try to get some nice income with these low quality images in the first pages of search results
dont know what will the future brings with this collection, but i hope i am wrong and it will be good for us all
: Fotolia forum censoring content?
: domencolja December 30, 2007, 02:43:16 AM
I don't know who's the forum moderators up there, but I just had a thread deleted. It was obviously censored.

The reason? I wrote about my sales being disastrous (comparing them to "other sites" (never mentioning any in particular) and saying they were 50 times worse than on the best one (and this was an approximation, 'cause they're even lower)), BUT I paralelly asked for help. Konstantin Sutyagin mentioned to me that it (my bad sales) might be because their search engine works with the seven "most important" keywords and since I never reorder them, this could well be the reason why my numbers are so, oh so low.

Anyways: my post wasn't attacking anyone and I sincerely asked for suggestions and advices. But some jerk thought this was obviously "bad publicity" and they removed my thread.

It might not sound such a big deal, but I highly value the freedom of speech and thought and this act is a big letdown for me. Big minus to Fotolia on this one!

I have had sites censor my messages in their forums for exactly the same reason.  Apparently if you are bashing other sites it is ok but if you compare them favorably to the one you are posting at it is a no-no.

One site actually recommended that I take my complaints to a public forum - like this one.  I think this policy can be very counterproductive.  Damage to their industry-wide reputation is certainly more at risk at a public site than on their own forum and that is what they should be concerned about.  fred

: Fotolia vector SVG format issues
: domencolja January 14, 2008, 09:25:46 PM
I've been trying to upload vector files to Fotolia for the last couple of weeks and out of around 30-40 vector files only around 15-20% were suitable for upload. Why? Because Fotolia uses the SVG (scalable vector graphics) format for vector uploads. Since SVG files don't support (as they should) gradient meshes made in Adobe Illustrator (the most popular vector illustration software suite in the world), I can't upload them up there.

On top of that they have a file size limit of 1MB for SVG files and that means that many vectors with an extreme number of path points (complex vectors) just can't be uploaded. I was squeezing my head off trying to figure out a way to reduce the file size, but than I just gave up. It's impossible to upload to Fotolia vector illustrations with higher number of paths and this also applies to illustrations that have a higher count of gradients. Meshes, as I said, aren't supported at all.

Is anyone else a little frustrated with this situation? It's their choice and I don't blame them, but it's a shame not to be able to upload vectors to a site with a presumably good sales ratings (even if I personally have never experienced it on my own skin).

p.s.: As a sidenote: I'm not even close to being an experienced illustrator, so I'm not even thinking of stepping in the shoes of professional designers that make extra-complex vector creations. I don't know how they upload to Fotolia (if they upload at all, that is).

I'm posting this thread in hope of being wrong and someone coming by and explaining a way to make the vector files suitable for the SVG format AND keeping them under 1MB. Thanks!
: Do earnings really expire?
: Syates January 22, 2008, 10:09:37 PM
I cancelled my account with Fotolia last year. Somebody just told me that now your earnings can "expire" at Fotolia? Is that true?  :o SY
: Re: Do earnings really expire?
: domencolja January 22, 2008, 10:15:16 PM
I'm not completely sure, but I think I did read somewhere that earning must be payed out in one year. But I would not be 100% sure about that.

p.s.: Sybille, why did you cancel the account?

That is a long story, lets say I didn't agree with some aspects of fotolia ;-) SY

: Re: Fotolia vector SVG format issues
: khz January 26, 2008, 06:31:43 PM
hi,
i had same problems there,
so i stopped ul'ing my vector files to fotolia too,
1 mb size limit is very funny
and svg is a pain,
why dont they just accept .eps while it is the standart in all other sites :S
: Re: Fotolia vector SVG format issues
: domencolja January 26, 2008, 08:56:03 PM
Don't ask me why, we're on the same boat, man;) The whole industry uses EPS AI8 compatible files. SVG is a great "free" format, but we all know the top-notch designers don't use open-source software, do they? Than why would they use SVGs in the first place?

p.s.: I respect their choice and I would definitely support it if it was synchronized on a buyer/submitter level, but how things stand right now, they're closing doors to too many pro designers who can't live with SVG limitations whatsoever (and I'm not one of them, thanks God not).
p.p.s.: For the best of all it would be highly appreciated if they rethought their business plan and extended vector uploads to EPS files as well. I heard many vector submitters have just dropped uploading files to Fotolia (either because of SVG characteristics or because of slow sales).

Holy shit... I take it they don't like fractals too much. Had a pile of my best selling fractals rejected for File type today... rather disheartening

Try to load it again. Change some little little things, maby it will help.
