: What kind of illustrations do you make?
: Syates November 26, 2007, 02:30:41 PM
Most of my illustrations are fractals and they are mostly done in Apophysis, like this one:

http://www.crestock.com/todays-best-image.aspx?id=474

It even made "Best image of the day" at Crestock some weeks ago, but I must admit I don't know why, I find it OK, but not really outstanding, SY

I do illustrations in Photoshop and Illustrator. I just started using 3ds max and doing some 3d renders of models I have made.

I use Bryce, 3ds Max, Apophysis, Terragen, Ultra Fractal, Illustrator, Chaoscope,Photoshop, Poser, Daz studio, Zbrush, and any combination of these.

Ok, I know, I know. I am an illustation whore!  ;D ;D ;) I just love making pictures.

How did you manage do learn all these, I know and use the main fractal programs, and have a basic knowledge of corel draw, but then I looked at 3d renders and uff!, I downloaded blender, and it is sooo complicated. Are you an autodidact or did you go to art school to learn all these? SY

I didn't learn them all at once! Most fractal programs are similar under the packaging, and its easy to switch between them.
Mostly I search out tutorials and follow until I get the hang of things, also the library is great for 'How to' books.
I hate reading the manuals! So boring.
I was glad I learned Illustrator, it gave me a great grounding in using the pen tool that has been invaluable in Photoshop.
Zbrush is just plain fun. ;D
Do you use Chaoscope? It gives fractals that are very different to Apophysis.

Zbrush? Never heard of it, do you ahve a link?
Chaoscope, yes I tried it, but you can only save as .bmp and that gave very "edgy" results, after converting to .jpg. SY

This illustration is a part of bigger icon set (which I make now) In next days I show you next parts. Here are ready illustrations.

I will change lens glass in webcamera - it's not good.

I like the way you have approached these Illustrations giving a modern twist to a subject that has been done many times. I hope these sell well.

Oh, and yes, I've started making illustrations for microstock only recently, but that's what I've come up in this short "vector illustrator lifespan" of mine;)

Examples:

Not really the most original style, I admit, but I try to make stuff that sells... and it is flowing pretty good lately, I must say. Thanks to all the AI freaks out there for the inspiration!;)

Damn, this will definitely seem like thread-flooding, but who cares;) I do make raster illustrations as well, example:

I have one in the pipe line (tutorial), anything you would like me to cover?
: Re: What kind of illustrations do you make?
: domencolja January 26, 2008, 10:06:13 PM
Nothing in particular, but if you're into it, I'd love to get an inside peek in the type of illustrations that's popular these days everywhere: namely "grunge". But it's really not a priority, anything, really, anything would be helpful.

p.s.: Thanks, man. Greatly respect people that help the community. Kudos!
p.p.s.: Btw, regarding the tutorial for glossy gradient effects. A sidenote: have you ever used the knife tool to slice shapes and apply gradients to them? I find it supereasy to add the "3D" look to flat illustrations (even larger groups of shapes). Just starting out, testing it, but it seems really effective.
: Re: What kind of illustrations do you make?
: nicemonkey January 26, 2008, 10:09:49 PM
I have used the slice tool but I prefer to subtract tool under the pathfinder pallet. I find it gives me more control.
